PERMIT INFORMATION
What is a Permit?
A permit is an official document issued by the city authorizing specific
building activity that has been reviewed for compliance and approved for
construction in accordance with adopted codes and regulations.
The City of El Paso issues several types of permits and each of those permits
has a unique permit type designations. Each permit designator contains the same
basic alpha-numeric elements.
For example, let's use BLD06-00002.
BLD identifies the type of permit, in this case, a Building Permit. The first
three letters will change, as shown above, depending on the type of permit that
you are requesting.
The next two numbers, "06", in this example, is the year the permit application
was received by the City of El Paso.
The five numbers following 06, in this example, "-00002" is the actual number
for that specific permit.
In many cases a number of departments or divisions may be involved with the
review of a permit. For example, a new commercial building permit application
would be reviewed by Building, Fire, Planning, Engineering and City-County
Health for compliance with the regulations that each department is charged with
enforcing, but the Building Permits & Inspections Plan Review Division
would administer the entire review process. If you have a question or concern

What is a status?
A status will identify the current state of the project that you are reviewing
on this site.
The following are the current status types that are being used by the City of
El Paso.
